Bringing more laughter into your life is one sure way of reducing stress, not only yours but the people you’re laughing with. Laughing helps us to release emotion and tension, and connects us with others. That’s where we come in...
At Laughter for Women we aim to do just that... make you laugh, with our new online magazine. Our magazine will be packed full of funny stories and anecdotes from everyday life and aims to be your first port of call for a laugh and a giggle. We’re devoting ourselves to helping women unwind and loosen up with feature articles on alleviating stress and an online directory of great places to go, relax and have fun.
About me
Born out of a ridiculous idea that I could write and with a couple of writing courses under my belt I set about some research. Research into what’s out there to help women to relax and feel better about themselves.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting we’re all in the doldrums of depressions but with so much going on for most women, it’s hard to break off and make time for our selves. And from one woman to another I have to say, it takes willpower to do just that; to put ourselves before our family, our work, the dog, saving the planet or whatever else that leaves us no time for ‘me’.
But it can be done; create more energy, eat well and laugh more. I’m not a professional when it comes to health and I can only speak for myself but I so believe that energy, eating well and laughing will reduce stress, help you get all those worries in perspective – God knows we’ve got plenty of them - and make the most of the time we have on earth.
Here’s how it all started
For as long as I can remember I’ve been helping people in one way or another, either friends, family or charitable organisations. I just can’t help myself, that’s the way I am. When I finally got round to thinking about myself I couldn’t quite put my finger on what I really wanted. I knew I wanted to work for myself and I wanted to write – a basic urge by the time you reach 40 – and thought I could write about disability given I have 17 years of caring for two beautiful daughters, one who is disabled.
I’m passionate about many things including people’s right, disability and recognising the millions of carers whose lives are put on hold to care for someone. Disability is such an emotive subject and it’s no easy life for the parents or the person with the disability. It’s a constant battle from the day your child is born whether it’s for health needs, education or other services. Having stood up for the rights of my children for years I thought I could write about the same and promptly enrolled myself on a writing course but when it came to the crunch I just couldn’t.
Funny jokes and photos piled into my email box and sometimes I would sit and just have a good old chuckle to myself. I started asking family members about funny things that have happened to them and together we laughed for hours. I love to hear people’s stories and I love the way laughter dissolves our worries and tension.
From there my idea for this website came about. From the very beginning I wanted to create a fun site with opportunities for humour, fun and friendship using submissions from writers and stories from women around the country. I hope I have succeeded.
